Youth Work is..........Identity
This weeks reading really stuck out to me because it is such an important topic in todays world. There are so many times where individuals aren't focused on their own identity rather than focusing on what makes them fit in with a group. It is so important for individuals to find themselves and identify what makes them unique.
Often times identity is over looked in many school settings, but I think that it is something that youth need help with. They need to be able to explore what makes them unique to themselves, but also what unique identities they have from their families.
Who Am I?
This question can be one of the hardest questions to ask an individual. If you asked me this question prior to this year, you would have gotten a surface level answer with barely any insight into why I answered the way I did. This was all based on comfort level, and not wanting to challenge myself to think deeper into who I truly am. As an educator we need to challenge that deeper thinking about who am I?, and what makes me me.
I loved reading your blog! I agree with you! It’s soo important for our youth and even adults to find who they are and identify what makes them unique as a person. I also loved your explanation of “who am I“ because this is such a challenging and confusing question to ask children so this topic should be brought up more in youth settings!
ReplyDeleteHi Abby! I agree with you we're often trying to fit in and who forget who we are. This is definitely something we should work on
ReplyDeleteHi Abby! I enjoyed your blog this week. Thank you for your honesty about the work you have done around your own identity. It takes a lot of courage to truly look within yourself. Sometime what you find is not pretty and requires more work. I appreciate your acknowledgement that as an educator it is work that must be done in order to be effective in your work.
